Hero Moments are special resources that are available to the characters in Steam’n’Steel to grow beyond themselves in critical situations and accomplish true feats of heroism. Each character has a pool of 2 of these Hero Moments.
Using Hero Moments:
- Automatic successes: In an opposed test, the character automatically has four more successes than the opposing side, which makes him superior in almost every confrontation. Alternatively, in an easy test you can automatically achieve four successes, which often makes the difference between success and failure.
- Life-Saving Situations: Hero Moments can also be used to escape a deadly situation. In other words, to avert lethal damage. The deadly stab that would have killed you remains stuck in the jacket’s button, or a falling boulder narrowly misses the character. These extraordinary moments give the characters a second chance, even in the most dangerous situations.
Activation in critical moments: Hero Moments can be used in situations where the character requires extraordinary abilities or a high degree of luck to accomplish a task or overcome a threat.
They cannot be used for tests where you roll multiple times over a period to accumulate successes.
Regeneration of Hero Moments:
Hero Moments regenerate at one Hero Moment per game night. This gives the characters the opportunity to regularly rely on their extraordinary abilities and repeatedly perform heroic deeds, without permanently standing as superhumans.
Game Master Decisions: The Game Master sets the threshold for successful rolls based on environmental influences, equipment and other factors. Likewise, the Game Master decides on bonuses, modifiers and the relevance of attributes, skills and paths for a given test.
