1 – Mercury

Short Description

Mercury is a rugged and desolate planet, on which early industrial and mining
activities dominate. The cities are simple and utilitarian, and the struggle for resources
is ubiquitous.

Environment

The environment on Mercury is extreme and hostile to life. The scorching heat of the sun burns
mercilessly on the planet’s surface, turning it into a glowing desert of metallic sand and rugged rocks. The nights, on the other hand, are icy cold, causing extreme
temperature fluctuations.
Flashing solar eruptions unleash dangerously close overheating across the planet’s surface, and
the deadly radiation forces the few brave inhabitants to live in massive, steel-reinforced
domes. These domes form closed biospheres with their own climate control systems, fighting against the outer adversities. Desert storms of fine metal splinters often surge across the landscape and can damage even heavy machinery. Despite the harsh conditions, the metal-rich world offers valuable resources that are hard to ignore.

Settlement

The cities on Mercury are plain and functional, shaped by rugged versatility and pure pragmatism. There are hardly any deposits of Aetherit, but ores and other minerals with exceptional purity are mined here. Mining companies and large landowners constantly wage power struggles for the best mining sites, and the decades-long mistrust has created a climate of permanent rivalry.
The technology is often in a state of constant wear and marked by simplicity, as profits flow into the pockets of boards and large landowners. This forces the inhabitants to become masters of improvisation in order to keep their simple, overworked machines running. On Mercury, people sought on other planets often find shelter — law fugitives, rebels and renegades.

Special Features

In the dome cities there are saloons and improvised shooting ranges where the miners unwind and vent after a long day of work. The sheriffs have their hands full keeping the peace. Regularly, there are physical altercations when the tension in the settlements boils over.

A notable peculiarity of Mercury is the Fenrir – a human, werewolf-like mutation developed through years of work with Aetherit. These robust and resilient creatures have adapted perfectly to the planet’s harsh conditions and are frequently employed as miners or mercenaries. Their physical strength and their ability to master extreme challenges make them respected and feared members of society.

Mercury is a harsh place where the law often means little and the right of the stronger rules. Here, only those who have the most money and the strongest weapon count. But despite all the misery and danger, Mercury is also a place where you can live your dream and reinvent yourself.

Long Description

The cities on Mercury are simple and rugged. There is little Aetherit, but here other metals and minerals with exceptional purity are mined. The mining companies and large landowners constantly wage power struggles for the best mining sites. The technology there is worn, as the profits go to the boards and large landowners. Therefore the inhabitants are also quite good at improvising. Due to the generally rather harsh conditions here, people who are wanted on other planets often find shelter here. In the dome cities there are saloons and improvised shooting ranges, where miners drink and vent after a long day of work. The sheriffs here have their hands full keeping the peace. The Fenrir, a human, werewolf-like mutation that developed through working with Aetherit, have adapted well due to their robust physiology to the harsh conditions of Mercury and are often found as miners or mercenaries. It is a harsh place where the law often matters little and the right of the stronger rules. Here, only those who have the most money and the strongest weapon count. But despite all the misery and danger, Mercury is also a place where you can live your dream and reinvent yourself.
